Pre-Delivery

Pad Prep

Your hot tub needs a strong and firm foundation. Your specific hot tub or swim spa model will depend on your spa pad construction needs. Most spas and swim spas are placed on a flat concrete pad.

For most hot tubs, a four-inch reinforced concrete pad is usually the most recommended substrate. Many hot tubs can be placed on decks or other flat solid surfaces. Make sure to check the requirements for your hot tub model in the pre-delivery instructions for your hot tub.

For most swim spas, a six-inch reinforced concrete pad is recommended. Check the requirements for your swim spa model in the pre-delivery instructions.

If you need further assistance, please contact The Hot Tub Store.

Electrical

For best results with your electrical connection:

  • Your electrician should use ¾ inch conduit to bring electrical wires to the spa.
  • It is best to use TTHN wire, not solid wire.
  • Make sure your electrician uses the correct-sized wire.

IMPORTANT: The neutral wire from the hot tub goes to a specific location on one of the breakers in the spa sub-panel NOT to the neutral bar.

If your electrician has further questions, please refer them to the instructions for your spa model in the pre-delivery instructions found at this link.

Note: If a Hot Tub Store technician needs to diagnose and/or correct the electrician’s work, there will be a minimum charge of $200.

If you need further assistance, please call your sales representative.

Preparing for Your Covana Cover

Just like the spa, your Covana cover requires a solid foundation. The area that the Covana automated cover sits on must be able to support at least 600 lb and must be level. An uneven surface can affect the usage of the Covana cover and impede operations. All components of the Covana cover must be supported by the foundation. It is extremely important that the foundation for the spa and Covana unit be level. There must NOT be any slope for drainage, the surface needs to be perfectly level. Note: Damage caused by inadequate or improper foundation support is not covered by the Covana warranty. It is the responsibility of the owner to provide a proper level surface and foundation.

Foundation Requirements

  1. Engineered wood deck or 4″-thick concrete pad.
  2. Each of the two to four posts on the Covana automated cover must be properly anchored to the foundation using at least one of the pre-drilled holes located at the foot of each post. Use a 3/8” concrete anchor for concrete pads or a 3/8” lag bolt for wood foundations of a minimum of 4” long.
  3. For an additional charge, The Hot Tub Store can put anchor bolts to the foundation upon which your Covana unit sits*.

Electrical Requirements

  1. The Covana automated cover requires a dedicated 115V, 15 amp, permanently connected (hard wired) power supply. The Covana motor has a dedicated connection for 115V.
  2. The electrical circuit for the Covana cover must include a suitable 15-amp ground fault interrupter (GFCI) as required to comply with codes and regulations.
  3. Wire and conduit should be sized according to local codes and regulations.
  4. The Covana cover must be installed in accordance to and comply with all applicable local codes, permitting, and regulations. All wiring should be installed by a qualified, licensed electrician.
  5. The Hot Tub Store is not licensed to perform electrical installation. If you would like, we can recommend several electricians with whom we have experience. Covana covers include a switch to raise and lower the cover. Placement of the switch is part of the electrical installation, and not included in Covana setup by The Hot Tub Store.
  6. Please review your manual for all electrical and operations procedures.

Spa Requirements

  1. The minimum height of a spa being used with a Covana automated cover is 34”.
  2. The maximum height of a spa being used with a Covana automated cover is 48”.

If you plan to use a Covana cover with a shorter spa, you must have the spa elevated on a platform so that the top of the spa is a minimum of 34” from the foundation surface where the Covana legs will sit. It is the responsibility of the owner to provide proper level surface and foundation as well as spa platform if needed.

  1. Covana automated cover height requirements may differ when used with a swim spa. See your sales person for details.

*The Hot Tub Store is not responsible for damage to the foundation or Covana unit that may result from the installation of anchor bolts. The installer will determine the extra charge for bolt installation, as techniques and materials vary depending on the foundation and the Covana unit being installed.
